Captain Picard gets a Promotion

Patrick Stewart was now Sir Patrick Stewart.

The 69 year-old actor was knighted today by Queen Elizabeth II and joins other great Shakespearean actors who crossed over into the realm of science fiction, like Sir Alec Guinness and Sir Ian McKellen in knighthood.

His most famous role is of course, Captain Jean-Luc Picard from Star Trek: The Next Generation, and he gained another legion of fans with his role as Professor X in the X-Men film franchise, but he never let himself be pigeonholed into one genre. He has worked in stage, television and film, been nominated for awards in all three mediums and he always makes time for his fans by making appearances at sci-fi and comic conventions. His imdb.com page spans 6 decades!

Congratulations to this girl's favorite starship captain, Sir Patrick Stewart!

William Shatner: Rocket Man

In 1972, Elton John and Bernie Taupin wrote "Rocket Man" and it became a hit.

In 1978, William Shatner performed "Rocket Man" for the Science Fiction Awards.

In 2001, Stewie Griffin performs a near copy of William Shatner's performance for an episode of Family Guy (Episode titled "And the Weiner is..." if you want to see it). I always wondered about the inspiration for that one...

Sometime in 2007, Shatner's performance is uploaded to YouTube.

Finally, this few minutes of pure, unadulterated Cheese falls in my lap. This is the epitome of Cheesy Goodness, folks. William Shatner wins The Internetz... and he wasn't even trying.

Tap Class

Most of you who know me personally know that I'm heavily involved in community theater. Well, I recently started taking a Tap Dancing class to help my dancing, and well, it's fun. That put me in sort of a dancing mood lately, so I've decided to dig up some of my favorite tap numbers from old movie musicals and share them with you.

I hope you like them!

Jam Tomorrow, Jam Yesterday

It's funny I found this, because my husband and I were having a conversation about Alice in Wonderland, and I mentioned this song. Turns out, he's never seen this version. So... Here we have Carol Channing singing about Jam.

I've been singing this song in my head for 20 years. Now, maybe someone else will.

2009: At the Movies

I counted all the scenes I recognized and I realized that I've only seen five of the movies in this clip. Aah... the joys of parenting a toddler! Movies in a theater are a rare joy!

Best Marriage Proposal EVER!!!

Ok, so this guy spent 9 months hiring actors, procuring equipment and writing a script that would " that would show what would go through someone's mind if they were about to die."

Then he rented out a movie theater and invited 160 of his and his girlfriend's closest friends and family, and showed up after the lights were already down (so she wouldn't recognize anyone).

Then they saw this.

She said "YES"!

The Golden Age of Video

I'm not exactly sure what to call this video. It's not exactly a mash-up, or a medley, it's both, and more. I know I'll call it AWESOME!

This was created by someone called Ricardo Autobahn, and I really enjoyed playing "What movie is that clip from?" while I watched it!
